About Squealbarrow

Why “Squealbarrow?”

When I was 4 years old, I presented my mom with a little wheelbarrow scupture made of twist ties and hardware. I aim to apply this can-do spirit into surface design: creating work that makes people ‘squeal’ in delight.

About me

My name is Amy. In addition to twist tie sculpture, I have 20+ years of experience in graphic design, a printmaking background, and a fondness for watercolor and pastel. These all play into my textile designs: you’ll notice an appreciation for quality of line, depth of texture, and a unique take on familiar themes. I use a variety of mediums to create work—the tension between the exuberance of a hand-drawn sketch and elegance of a perfect vector curve is something I love to explore.

As an avid home sewist, my goal is to design fabrics that are exciting to both purchase and wear. I take inspiration from current colors and trends, but am not afraid to add my own twist. I design for people who believe clothes should express their personality, and who enjoy a wink and a nod now and then. My people are those who like nothing better than the pop of a fun print lining a sophisticated jacket.

I live in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago and travel to hike places with actual elevation gain whenever I can.
